A new week means new music. The only thing I didn't like about last week's set was that it wasn't mixed. This week the music is mixed, and I'll continue to do so as long as the music permits (I'm not going to shoehorn an ambient or D&B track into an electro song in other words).

What's the deal?

Yeah, I know. I've been thinking about what I'm doing here and what I'm wanting from all of this. So I've decided that Set Theory will undergo a little format change. I personally think it's for the better, but only time will tell.

First, the regular bi-weekly Set Theory show will become a more "radio style" show, with segments covering new music, gear, and other things (interviews, etc). Each show will still have a "theme" but now I can expand out and cover things like classic dance and new unsigned artists without worrying about what will fit properly into a given mix. The general audience I'm aiming at are EDM fans, but there will be alot of DJ oriented info in the show. The new music segment will feature song clips as well as the listing, so you can get an idea of what the music sounds like. Show information will be posted on this site as well.

But I recognise that mixed music has a definate fan base, and I always wanted to promote other DJs as part of the show, so there will be another show every OTHER week called "Sub Set" that will be an hour long mixed set from guest DJs (I will of course also occasionally put up mixes). So you'll still be getting a mix every 2 weeks, but you'll also be getting an EDM "show" as well.

First show will be up early next week, and will be covering retro techno. I'll also be talking about the Feena Electronics FMDJ9303 MIDI Controller. I've even remade the open to something a little beefier.

I hope all 5 of you like it!

Show Number Two - Drum and Bass

This edition of Set Theory brings you an increasingly darker set of Drum and Bass. I never know where I'm going to end up with these things, and the evil stuff just sounded right. Technically there's a little of everything in this one, from Techstep to Jump Up. My favorite track this time around is DJ Fresh's "The Immortal". I passed on this track 3 times before I bought it, but I've been listening to it quite a bit since and it's certainly grown on me. This one clocks in at 53:48 and the average BPM is 178.

Enjoy!

Set Theory Intro - nem0nic
Adam F - Eightball - Original Mix
DJ Craze, Juju - Superfly - Original Mix
Basic Operations - Final Say - Original Mix
Aphrodite - Will We Love DUB - Dub Mix
2sense & Kaotik Grace - Put it Down - Original Mix
Drumsound, Simon Bassline Smith - Killa DJ - Original Mix
Logistics - Blackout - Original Mix
DJ Fresh - The Immortal - Original Mix
DJCBX - Battlefield - Original Mix
Dred Bass - War Of The Worlds - Original Mix

Email from listeners...

First of all, welcome to all the iTunes folks that can now grab the cast. I've had a couple emails asking me what equipment I used to make the mix. The basics are as folows.

2 x Stanton T.120 turntables
1 x Stanton C.314 CD deck
1 x Stanton C.304 CD deck
1 x Denon DN-X500 mixer
Stanton Final Scratch 2 with TDJS3 software
1 x Korg Kaoss Pad 2
1 x Behringer Nano MIDI controller
Dell XPS M140 Laptop (for FS)

Ideally I would like to handle synchronized loop playback via OSC on a seperate computer, but right now TDJS3's OSC implementation is a little finicky. For this mix, I used the CD decks for the drop ins instead. The open segment was totally preproduced in Vegas and Reason. So there ya go. If you have any more questions, please email me at admin@nem0nic.com.
